Welcome to Katori Shinto Ryu Israel
The first Israeli school for the martial art of the samurai - Tenshin Shodan Katori Shinto Ryu

A long tradition of martial arts
Tenshinsho-den Katori Shinto-ryu - is a japanese matrial art school established more then 550 years ago, and is one of the oldest and most respected sward fighiting school in Japan.
Katori school is the actual predecessor of many other Japanese martial arst and martial arst schools.
Katori school teaches a very broad fighting method that includes the use of many weapons, in contrast to modern methods such as Kendo or Iaido, which concentrate on a specific field of work. The main emphasis of the school is sword techniques. A wide variety of other weapons are taught as part of the curriculum, but the sword remains the focus of the curriculum.

Annual training trip to Japan
Every year, we trave to Japan to practice Katori Shinto Ryu in its birthplace. This trip is a great opportunity to learn for our school headmaster and to train with practitioners from all over the world.

Advanced combatitive training
A typical training session includes individual sward drawing practice, using metal swards, followed by pair practice using wodden weapons.
Practicing in pairs simulates a close-range samurai duel situations where the fighters wears heavy armor. The practice focuses on precisley hittin known weak-points in the traditional Japanese armor, and requires precision and control while maintaining the safety of the trainees.
The school syllabus is graduat and broad, allowing the student to develop accuracy, speed, technique and fighting spirit.
Katori training is suitable for both beginners and experianced students. Most of our students are experianced martial-artists.

Katori training encorporate the use of traditional Japanese weapons such as: long sword, short sword, long staff (bo), naginata, spear (yari), two swords.
